Raptors Keep Facilities Fund

Raptors Keep is a federally permitted, not for profit, organization that specialized in birds of prey. We run a sanctuary for non-releasable birds of prey (AKA raptors) and do public presentations on the importance of wildlife conservation.

Presently, Raptors Keep is operating out a our founder's home. Upon acquiring a second lot, our original plan was to convert the additional building into a visitor's center (given enough funds) via a 3 phase process:

1. Exterior work: new roof and windows, repair foundation, repair/replace siding (estimated cost $20,000)

2. Interior structure renovations: install central HVAC, ensure electric and pluming are up to code, fix any framing issues, interior demolition and dump (estimated cost $29,400)

3. Interior fixtures: new insulation/drywall/paint, flooring, fixtures, cabinets, restroom, etc (estimated cost $58,000)

Once completed we were going to apply any remaining funds to expanding and updating our outdoor bird enclosures. Unfortunately, after clearing out the building for renovation we learned that the old structure was beyond repair and ultimately unsafe for any use.

Because of the increased costs of tearing down and rebuilding something new -- as opposed to renovating an existing structure -- we have had to abandon our plans for a visitor's center at this time, however, we are still working on expanding and updating all of our outdoor bird facilities. Furthermore, with the additional space gained from removing the old building, we are able to include a larger flight enclosure into the new plans as well.
