Raphael Nettles went in to the ER March 29th for stomach pain, were he stayed for 11 days throwing up and was released with the same symptoms. Within 8 hours he was back to another ER were he was admitted and in under 72 hours was in surgery with what was supposed to be an exploratory surgery of 1 to 2 hours. 5.5 hours later he came out with a huge reconstruction of his small intestines because he had a kink that had cut off blood supply and they had started to die. While in the first hospital he had developed a blood clot so the 2nd hospital gave him blood thinners that did too good of a job and lowered his hymoglobin to a 4 were it's supposed to be at 14. In addition to that he developed a hematoma and an infection where he had been placed in ICU 2 times and received 8 units of blood and 4 units of plasma. He was then sent to an extended stay hospital for a few more weeks for iv antibiotics and 2 more units of blood. He was just released as of May 16th and now requires home health care for his wound and is now having trouble covering medical and living expenses. With the love and support of his co-workers at Whole Foods hes been able to sustain up until now.
