Rikers Island has long represented a crisis of human rights, neglect, and systemic injustice in our city. Someone dies in DOC custody in New York State every two days, while the broader carceral system continues to tear families apart, criminalize poverty and mental illness, destabilize housing and economic security, isolate people from their communities and support systems, and deny countless people the dignity and opportunity they deserve.

Rap Against Rikers brings artists, activists, and community members together to use the power of hip-hop as a force for real change—amplifying the voices on the front line, raising awareness, providing education and resources, and supporting incarcerated individuals and their loved ones.

Together, we can speak truth to power and turn rhythm into action and a more free and fair city for all.
