If you know me, you know Rango. He’s been with me for the entirety of my adult life, and is one of the most important living things in my world. Now, as he gets closer to the end of his own life, we find ourselves fighting for a chance at a couple more years, but unfortunately, our largest obstacle in that fight is our finances. We have drained ourselves dry on him.
Medically, he is suffering from immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, and subsequently, Glaucoma and Uveitis. Today (5/23) he received his second blood transfusion and started on an immunosuppressant. Our wonderful vet thinks that there is a decent chance that, if the immunosuppressants work in the next few days, Rango could be sent home (with a bunch of pills of course). But, we are also, as a family, preparing for the possibility that our efforts could end in failure. The more help we have, the more we can try to help him, and, when the time comes, give him the comfortable farewell that he deserves.
Rango has always been a walking vessel containing some of the best parts of me. I just hope that, with the help of our community, we’ll be able to afford to put the effort into reciprocating all of the love and care that he has given to me, and every person he's known over the past decade, especially those in every single family that we've been lucky enough to be a part of.
