Hi all,
This is Ranger, our 6-month-old Boxer/Terrier mix that we recently adopted from the Solano County SPCA. Ranger came to us as a tripod, having had his front left leg amputated after being attacked by another dog at his previous shelter.
This past weekend, Ranger got a little too excited and tried to jump onto the bed, which was too high for him. He fell backward onto the ground, landed hard on his back right leg, and was unable to put any weight on it after that. With only two good legs, he hasn’t been able to stand or walk on his own since the accident, though we can tell that he wants to. After a long day in the ER, he was able to get X-rays taken and was found to have a fracture called an acute tibial tuberosity avulsion (pictured below). Unfortunately, this type of fracture requires surgery to heal and recover properly, and with only three legs to begin with, Ranger needs all those legs functioning as best as possible! Ranger was able to get in for surgery on Thursday (8/25) & everything went smoothly! He stayed at the veterinary center overnight so they could continue his post-op care, and we were told that he earned himself a little fan club during his stay. We brought him home Friday afternoon and he will now begin the 6-week recovery process while his leg fully heals. Below is his leg before (left) & after (right) the surgery.
Ranger has been such a brave boy, even with all the pain he’s in. Despite his traumatic experiences early in life, he is the sweetest, happiest puppy and loves playing with humans, our cat Stevie, and (as far as we've observed so far) other dogs. We’ve only had Ranger for a short time, but he’s already won our hearts and we know the joy that he will bring to others who meet him in the future will be immeasurable. All of the money we raise will go towards Ranger’s surgery costs; we want to give him the best chance to live a long, healthy life, and we greatly appreciate any donations that will help us repair the damage in his leg and allow him to do just that! Thank you!
