Randy's Treatment

Hey Everyone!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and keeping updated on Randy throughout this process! A little background on our story. In July Randy had brought up a concern and was asking if I felt or noticed this concern too. I mentioned why not have things checked out and make use of the medical insurance. His PCP got him in for a scan and we went the same day that we were having our 20 week anatomy scan of baby Lucy.

The following morning (Friday) our OB called giving us great news on Lucy's results, growth and our pregnancy so far. Just a few hours later we got the phone call from Randy's PCP letting us know that he was in fact valid for his concerns and the mass was more than likely cancerous on his left testicle. The next morning we had an emergency appointment with urology who also confirmed that it was cancerous and surgery would be necessary within the next few weeks and labs are to be done immediately. With the surgery 4-6 weeks of recovery would follow as well as receiving more information as to potential additional care and precautionary measure that may need to be taken.

Labs came back over the weekend and resulted in a call from Randy's urologist stating that emergency surgery was necessary and needed to be performed that week less than 48 hours later. He advised us that due to certain markers, sizing of the mass etc he would not advise waiting longer to receive care.

Wednesday we went in for surgery, and Randy was blessed with an incredible team. He was given a few days to recover before we had a follow up with Urology. They had taken the removed testicle and mailed it out to their labs to have testing done so that we could get more specific answers as to what the mass was, did it metastasize, did it have long term effects on Randy?

Fortunately the tumor had not metastisized. It did begin travel towards his lymphatic system and was a mass that contained multiple types of cancers. One of the cancers in the mass was a carcinoma. Due to this he was referred to oncology to further seek treatment from a specialist. Our oncologist is absolutely incredible and brought Randy's case to two of his mutual Oncologists in San Francisco and New York. Together they studied Randy's case and came to a potential treatment plan. This plan and (1) One cycle of chemotherapy SHOULD kill the cancer cells and leave Randy with a less than 5% chance of cancer returning. If Randy was to choose to not follow this treatment plan he has a 40-50% chance of the cancer returning.

His current plan includes routine labs, 5 days straight (all day) of intense chemotherapy starting Oct 10-15. Once he finishes the 5 days, he will have to go in for additional chemo treatments the following (2) two Wednesdays as of now. From that time his immune system will be depleted, he more than likely will have little to no energy, hair loss and nausea. These symptoms and recovering from the chemotherapy is expected to take 3-6 months.

If you have made it this far, you know Randy, Farrah and I are expecting baby Lucy to arrive Thanksgiving week with a scheduled cesarian. With that being said as we roll into this fall and winter season our family needs prayer first and foremost. Secondly, we have had so many incredible people to offer financially, through meal planning, groceries, house cleaning, welcoming us home with the new baby etc. We are so grateful for all that has been offered and/or provided this far.

We have a busy next few weeks prior to Chemo starting to include, Maternity Pictures (had to be rescheduled earlier than expected due to Chemo), Work trips, Rancho Murieta Summer Fest, etc.

At this time I am really unsure of the help we will need, but I would love to keep track of who is offering help and their availability. Please feel free to comment or shoot me a text so that I can start organizing and planning.

I will be updating daily hopefully once treatment has started, in the meantime I will be updated as we receive new information.

Thank you again. I know we all appreciate each and every one of you to pieces.
