Randy's Valiant Fight

Donation protected
This is a story about our dear son-in-law, Randy Ristow,  that we love as a son.

In June of 2009, Randy suddenly began suffering from severe vertigo.  The energetic, engaged and cheerful Randy we knew was suddenly withdrawn and silently suffering.

Randy and family have since spent the intervening years seeking a medical diagnosis.  While a conclusive diagnosis has yet to be found, it was determined Randy has chronic lyme disease. This is a devastating illness that affects almost every body system.  The treatments, yes many options have been tried, have yet to be effective and these treatments are not usually covered by medical insurance.  Even after many years of antibiotics,  antivirals, as well as high dosing IV therapies, he still continues to suffer from vertigo, muscle weakness, visual disturbances, as well as heart ailments.

He recently had a bowel perforation which led to an emergency surgery to remove a large section of his intestine, which resulted in 16 days in the hospital. Post surgery, he has never fully recovered to where he can eat normally and his diet consists of special medical shakes, many vitamin and mineral supplements along with eggs and potatoes, which seem to be the only foods his fragile intestines can handle.  He has also suffered from chronic kidney stones, passing one or more every couple of months.

In spite of this, Randy has maintained steady employment. He has and continues to participate in the company offered health insurance.   Still, out of pocket medical costs have been, for each of the past few years, in the tens of thousands.

Recent tests have found that Randy has  elevated blood calcium levels and it was determined by a specialist at Cedar Sinai in LA that Randy’s parathyroid glands are not functioning properly.  His elevated blood calcium level has resulted in his premature onset of osteoporosis,  recurrent kidney stones and  cardiac arrhythmia.

The current medical recommendation - undergo surgery to remove 3 ½ of these 4 parathyroid glands. Surgery is scheduled for July 31 in LA.  This surgery is partially covered by  medical insurance  but the expected out of pocket costs will be substantial.

Can you, will you help defray some of these out of pocket costs?  Every donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated.

Having read this story would you commit to pray for Randy and family? We, his “in-laws” continue to be amazed by the son (in-law), husband and Dad, Randy continues to be in spite of these past twelve years of chronic illness.  He truely models his faith in action.  As the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:12 “Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel,”.

Please help!  And thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
