In a little less than a month my dad, Randy Schoen, had his world turned upside down. He retired from his full time job last year and was trying to live his best life. He was struggling with a constant shoulder pain and frankly it was getting in the way of his golf game so he mentioned it to his physician. He just wanted a shot of cortisone which he did get but he also got the devastating news that he was in Stage 4 Kidney failure and would need dialysis and a possible transplant. He was told that he needed a kidney biopsy and was to do that at Mayo in Rochester. The results from the biopsy led to an immediate admission into the hospital where he was told he has multiple myeloma, cancer of the blood. The doctors then ordered a bone marrow test where it was discovered that he has cancer in his bones too. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital where they did daily Plex treatment (blood cleaning) and chemotherapy. Since being released from the hospital he has had to go in 3-5 times a week to continue Plex treatments and Chemo. He and his wife, Tami live 40 miles from Rochester and both have been out of work since this all started in early October. If you know Randy, you know he is the most generous, caring and optimistic man around. He truly has the heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He is and always has been a very hard worker! So it kills him to even think about asking anyone for anything especially money. However, sometimes you have to lean on others when you’re in need.
Our family and friends have already helped keep Randy strong and fighting by sending love and prayers. Please continue to keep them coming and if you can help offset the cost of Randy’s rising medical expenses in anyways it would be greatly appreciated. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
