Randy Lowe

On September 3, 2022, my incredible friend Randy Lowe passed from this world.

I met Randy and his wife Becky while working as a nursing assistant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. From the moment I met them, I knew they were truly special people. Randy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia and fought valiantly through his illness- experiencing miracle after miracle during his medical journey. Despite the enormous struggle they faced every day, Randy and Becky kept smiles on their faces and spread joy to all they knew.

One night, when I came into work, Randy was not doing well. He was very sick and admitted that he thought he was going to die. Not knowing what to say, I asked: "If you don't make it through tonight, how are you going to come to my Naval Commissioning ceremony?" He and Becky are great patriots and Randy always inquired about my future military service. He wearily picked his head up and asked in a groggy voice: "When is it?"

"Next May," I replied. "I'll be there" he responded.

Nearly a year and a half later, Randy was at my ceremony. In perhaps the greatest honor of my life, I got to share a momentous personal occasion with such an incredible person and mentor. Requiring a wheelchair from his illness, Randy still insisted on standing for one moment in particular: the national anthem.

As I got to know Becky and Randy, they became some of my closest friends. Randy meant the world to so many people- and impacted many more. Randy fought his illness harder than most people could possibly imagine but was finally called home. In his last days on earth, Becky told him that "If he sees Jesus reach out his hand, it is okay to take it- but to keep fighting until then." On 9/3/22, Jesus finally reached out his hand.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide money for burial and living expenses to support Becky in her new life. Years of battling Leukemia left Randy unable to work and placed severe constraints on their finances. All money will go directly to her. Thank you for considering donating!!
