Random Act for Dusty Paik

There will come a time where each of us will feel defeated by a curve-ball that life throws. Then the proverbial "When it Rains, it Pours" pitch comes out of left field and smacks you in the mouth.

Dusty, our amazingly talented and hard working dancer, performer, costume designer, and artist extraordinaire, drove her 11 yr old, worn out Chevy to Oakland to teach a workshop a few days ago. At its end, she packed up her things preparing to drive back home to her life and job in Los Angeles, but found her car was dead. Not just "new battery, fix the alternator dead”, it was “Valve Job, timing chain, and head gasket” dead... in other words a lot of money that she doesn't have. But wait, really rotten days tend to get worse. Isn't that how it goes?
An hour later, she lost her job at the costume shop. Seriously. And she's still stranded in Oakland.

I started this campaign because alone we can't do much, but together we can make this crappy situation a heck of a lot better; to help her fix her car to get back on the road, with a little extra to cover things that you can't put on pause, like necessities, living expenses and feeding your face. If determination, talent and hard work measured one's success, I think Dusty would live among the elite, but instead she needs our help and I want to facilitate that.

Why give? Great role models are respected for how they make those around them better. Dusty has been that and more. She's helped us strive to push beyond the ordinary, to laugh at ourselves when we make mistakes, practice patience, and to man-up when things get tough. Also, great friendships have the power to bring hope, happiness and confidence like nothing else can. Dusty has been that too, for many of us.

By purchasing a skirt, a shirt or a custom made piece (link below), we'll help her thrive.  Donating the cost of a cup of coffee or a dinner out, will show her that challenges don't have to be faced alone as a single woman. We, her extended family of friends, will continue to believe in her extraordinary abilities and her creative spirit that keeps her hips shaking and her fingers sewing.

This campaign has been established for all donations to go directly to Dusty, not me the messenger.
