Randall Chipps liver transplant!

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out for support during a challenging time for my father and I. Since 2018, my father has been battling liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy (causing confusion and cognitive impairment), on top of his vision issues from a botched cataract surgery, his hearing loss of more than 50%, neuropathy in his feet and legs, and back problems from years of carpentry work. Tragically, he lost his partner of 15 years in May 2023, followed by his mother just two months later. Just in June of 2024, he lost his dog (Raine).

Determined to turn his life around, my father has been sober since June 16, 2023. After my grandmother's passing, I took on the responsibility of his medical, financial, and overall care. He is now living with me so that I can provide the care he needs as he was denied other forms of assistance, home care, assisted living, rehabilitation, etc. due to his age and insurance. Thankfully, my background as a Certified Nursing Assistant and pharmacy technician equips me to provide the care he needs.

However, as I navigate each of the LPN program I’m currently in, juggling 10+ credit hours each semester, I've had to drastically reduce my work hours to accommodate my father's numerous appointments and consultations at IU Health hospital and to be able to take care of him at our home. There are going to be many overnight stays in Indianapolis as we progress through the transplant process. Despite discounted rates offered by the hospital, the financial strain of travel and time away from work and school adds up. Having to work enough to pay the bills, being a full time student, and taking care of him as become quite a challenge. We have been added to many waitlists for housing, nursing facilities, and structured family care through the aged and disabled waiver (which is now called the health and wellness waiver).

Insurance will cover a good amount of the actual cost for care/transplant surgery 30 days prior to surgery and 6 months after, but unfortunately not 100%.

Once my father is accepted for transplant, time will be of the essence, requiring immediate travel to IU Health. Following the transplant, I will need to be by his side 24/7 for at least 30 days post-operation.

I'm committed to doing everything I can for my father, but any support would mean the world to us during this challenging journey. Thank you for considering helping us through this difficult time.

If unable to donate, words of encouragement and/or prayers are always appreciated during this difficult time!
