RANCH CAMP [merkabah]
Donation protected
The journey began in the summer of 2016 when Maria C. Sanchez, an architecture designer ventured herself to teach art and design to over 1,000 children at a summer camp. In 2016 Sanchez became the director of the art and design program at Ranch Camp. She created a unique curriculum that was implemented as a mini architecture studio for children. Activities included: architecture, toy design, furniture design, 3D sculptures and industrial design. Children were exposed to a unique learning approach, not very typical at an equestrian summer camp.
She continued the program at Ranch Camp in 2017, at the end of summer camp, Maria built a wooden merkabah at Burning Man in Black Rock City, Nevada - a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada. For Sanchez the tetrahedron symbolizes gratitude to Ranch Camp and Judaism as they welcomed her - Sanchez was raised Roman Catholic - Ranch Camp is an inclusive children's summer camp, they serve as a role model to the world. Ranch Camp is a place for children where life-long friendships born, identities discovered, and youth challenged to grow in mind, body, and spirit in a vibrant Jewish community.
During the winter 2017 Sanchez built a second merkabah during Art Basel, in Wynwood District, Miami - an international art fair staged annually in Basel, Switzerland and Miami Beach.
This summer 2018 Ranch Camp has invited Sanchez as the artist in residence to build a sculpture of her choice. So guess what she will be building? a merkabah :) children are excited to see it completed in the pavilion where Jewish services take place. The wooden structure with laser cut acrylic triangles will be cut and assemble this summer.
Sánchez is currently opening her own after-school space in Puerto Rico, pilot model will be launch this summer. TOPS [the other primary school]
Thank you for supporting art and design for children at Ranch Camp, Colorado.
