Update September 29, 2026

Rana’s remains were officially identified on September 15th. After the detectives completed their investigation with the remains, she was released to Lulu.

As a Muslim, burial is the only option to lay the person’s remains to rest. The janazah for Rana was held today, September 29th in Richardson. American Airlines will be helping with flying Rana’s remains to Seattle where Lulu will finish laying her mother to rest.

Lulu will be having to cover the costs of burial, which is about $12,000. We are working with Rana’s previous employer, Envoy, to verify any benefits that will help cover this cost. However, financial need is still there in the meantime. She has at least one more trip to Texas to pay for as well as her mother’s burial.

Because Rana’s remains were properly identified, the court date in October has been moved to a new date. Lulu will be flying down for that time to release her survivor’s statement.

If you are unable to give, please send your strength and encouragement for her tremendous bravery and resilience during the court appearance. Again, Lulu is a very private person, so this is a huge feat for her to face the person accused of killing her mother.

Update June 28, 2026:

On June 14, 2026, authorities have found what they believe is the body of Rana. They are waiting for final DNA testing, but due to a medical prosthetic, they are pretty sure it is her. Lulu is very relieved she can lay her mother’s body to rest.

During the past year, Lulu has been able to use the funds generously donated to pay for a moving pod for some of her mother’s belongings found in a U-Haul storage locker. The funds were also used for lots of paperwork to start the process of closing accounts because the circumstances caused way more paperwork involving lawyers and courts. Additionally, she had to fly back and forth from Seattle to Texas multiple times last summer to first try to find out what happened to Rana, and then begin the process of closing accounts, storage locker, and working with law enforcement. Your generosity also helped pay for some much needed therapy to help her through the darkest time in her life.

She is now looking at costs for actual burial. Due to her heritage, cremation is not an option. She will need to ship Rana’s remains to Seattle for a proper burial where Lulu lives. Additionally, she will need to travel back to Texas for that. Also, court times are set in September for the two alleged suspects in this case. We are all hoping for swift justice for Rana. Lulu plans to travel for court dates to ensure a family representative is there during this process.

Lulu is forever grateful for the generosity, love, and kindness she has received from her friends, family, mother’s co-workers, and even strangers. If you are able to donate again, this will help ensure Rana is appropriately laid to rest and Lulu’s travel expenses- plane tickets, hotel, and food- are covered during this time as well.

Lastly, I would like to provide an update on Lulu. She graduated college this April after her brief sabbatical due to her mother’s tragic death, and she is already setup with a job in her field. She is excited to finally be working towards her goal she set years before. She is still very happy living in Seattle and has support from friends and loved ones there with her.

As Lulu’s previous high school teacher and now a friend and mentor, I have offered to help Lulu with the burden of the costs of her mother’s tragic death. There are so many unexpected fees, procedures,and costs when a loved one is murdered. Lulu is a college student living in another state trying to balance her own life as well as all of the added mental load, responsibilities, and costs bestowed upon her once someone decided to murder her mother. All funds will go directly to Lulu for any expenses due to travel, lawyer’s fees, shipping costs, storage costs, and hopefully a memorial service if her mother’s remains are found.

On June 11th, Lulu received a call from her Aunt asking if she had heard from her mother lately. She had not, and that started this journey.

At first, it was believed that Lulu’s mother, Rana Nofal-Soluri (also known as Rain) was simply missing. The search went out, flyers were made, police were involved, and Lulu finally had to find the time and funds to come out to Texas to help search for her missing mother. She flew out in mid-June and stayed for almost a week heading up the search for her missing mother.

Quickly, the Fort Worth Police’s Missing Person’s Department realized that this may not just be a missing person and handed the case over to homicide to help. Within days, the Fort Worth Police Department’s Homicide Division had a suspect and a confession.

The worst possible outcome was determined; Rana was no longer missing but murdered.

With this news, Lulu, Rana’s daughter, has been trying to deal with this shocking news along with dealing with the next steps that come along with this devastating outcome. She flew back to Texas the week of August 25th to sort through her mother’s storage unit. She also gained access to the house that her mother was allegedly murdered in to collect any further belongings of her mother’s. After a week of staying in a hotel, she went back to Washington to start her final semester in college.

Because of this, Lulu has already endured a tremendous financial burden with hotel stays, airplane tickets, shipping and storage of sentimental items, and food while traveling. She is also looking at the requirement to hire a probate attorney to be able to finalize her mother’s estate. Because no body has yet been found and identified, she must have a probate attorney to be able to get a death certificate, which would then allow her access to close any accounts in her mother’s name.

We are asking for these funds to support Lulu in the next year or so as she navigates travelling back to Texas as needed to close out her mother’s accounts and for any future court case. Additionally, a probate attorney can cost anywhere on average from $3,000 to $7,000, but possibly more due to the extenuating circumstances. Plus, she will need to retain one in Texas while she is not living here. Any donation helps Lulu not have to worry about these unexpected expenses from her mother’s untimely and tragic death.
