Ramsey Rugby Club
We’re raising £4,000 to fund a new boiler for our showers and toilets.
The last 12 months have no doubt been challenging for the Island. Having been through three lockdowns, we now find ourselves in a rather fortunate position where a sense of normality has resumed.
As a rugby club we have also faced a number of challenges over the last year. On the back of the 2019/20 season being ended abruptly, the 2020/21 was heavily disrupted before finally being cancelled during our third lockdown. On top of that, back in April 2020 a substantial oil leak was discovered at our clubhouse which has put our kitchen and bar area out of action for over a year now. As our two main sources of income, the financial impact during that period has been significant.
Despite the challenges we’ve faced, the club as a whole has continued to have a positive impact on the local community, no more so than with the introduction of the Ramsey Rugby Doorstop Deliveries Team who not only provided shopping, prescription collection and dog walking facilities throughout all three lockdowns but, more importantly, provided a voice on the other end of a phone, or much needed face to face contact with vulnerable individuals shielding throughout the pandemic.
Thankfully, the work required by our Doorstop Delivery Team has now reduced, and we have finally been able to get back to some form of rugby over the last few weeks. Whilst the building work to our kitchen and bar area is ongoing, we have identified a number of other works to our clubhouse that needs to be undertaken in order for us to fully reopen for the start of next season in September.
One of those key works that has been identified is a new boiler to facilitate the showers and toilets at the clubhouse. Over the last few years our junior section has seen a significant increase in numbers, including the introduction of three separate aged girls groups. As a result, the showers and toilets use has now exceeded the capabilities of the current boiler and, with plans to eventually extend the current clubhouse to accommodate additional changing facilities, an upgrade is required. The costs for these works have been estimated at £4,000, and the senior players of the club collectively agreed that, given the financial impact of our recent oil leak, we would undertake a fundraising event to raise funds for our new boiler.
Therefore, on the weekend of 12th and 13th June 2021, Ramsey Rugby Club will be taking on a 24 hour run around the club’s pitch. The run will start at midday on 12th and end at midday on 13th, and will entail a senior member of Ramsey Rugby Club to be continuously running around the pitch for the entire 24 period.
Any support you can provide to this fundraising event will be greatly received. We estimate that, based on an average running pace of 10 minutes per mile, we should be looking at 150 miles for the entire run. If you prefer to therefore sponsor us per mile (10p a mile would be £15) then that would be great.
Many thanks
