Supporting Tom's Journey

In times of crisis, our faith and community are our strongest pillars of support. Today, I come to you with a story that underscores the resilience of the human spirit and the power of compassion.

Meet Tom, a man whose life has been dedicated to helping others through the challenging journey of drug and alcohol rehabilitation. His career has been a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving those in need, offering hope and guidance to individuals seeking to overcome their struggles.

However, Tom's journey took an unexpected turn when he was struck by severe chest pain on December 22nd. Rushed to the hospital, he was confronted with a critical diagnosis that demanded immediate action. Tom faced a daunting surgery, where doctors discovered 2 different aortic dissections , 2 aneurysms, and a leaking valve in his heart.

Miraculously, Tom made it through the grueling 12-hour surgery. But the road to recovery remains fraught with challenges. He spent weeks in critical condition in the ICU, battling against the odds with the steadfast support of his loving wife Juliet and their 2 year old son Rocco.

A few weeks following his first open heart surgery, a cardio ablation needed to be done. After the cardio ablation, Tom had complications again and a hematoma started forming around Tom’s heart. Another surgery was needed, and followed by 3 weeks of additional recovery time in the ICU.

Tom's kidneys and liver shut down completely by the second operation. Due to this, he is also being seen by a kidney specialist.

Currently, he still has a descending dissection that hasn’t been worked on and in 3 to 5 years, another open heart surgery will be needed for this so that it can be managed with blood pressure medications.

Tom is back at work, but is on several medications to maintain and continue to heal. He has to take his meds and vitals every two hours until he has his next surgery.

As a community, we have the opportunity to rally behind Tom and his family during this difficult time. The financial burden of medical expenses and the loss of income weigh heavily on their shoulders. While Tom fights for his life, let us ease their burden by offering our prayers, support, and whatever financial assistance we can provide.
