Ramon’s Run for Bulldogs: Supporting Austin Bulldog Rescue

Join me in supporting Austin Bulldog Rescue!

This month, on May 24th, I am taking on the challenge of running a backyard ultramarathon in Austin. This will not only be my first ultramarathon, but my first race in 14 years, and I wanted to make it special by donating to an organization with a cause that I care deeply about: Animal welfare, specifically focused on Bulldog rescue and rehabilitation.

My passion for bulldogs and their wellbeing runs deep, as I understand firsthand the unique needs of bulldogs. I once had a bulldog named Zeus, who tragically passed away due to heat exertion while he was under the care of a pet-sitter. Bulldogs, with their special physiology, can't tolerate certain conditions as well as other dogs. Currently, myself and my girlfriend share an English Bulldog named Mellow, who has brought so much joy into our lives. Understanding the unique needs of bulldogs and brachycephalic breeds, which often face respiratory issues and other special health concerns, as well as unethical breeding issues, is something that many people aren't familiar with. Neglect and abuse are terrible for any living being, but it can be especially horrific with these dogs who require extra considerations from day-to-day.

This is why I have decided to use this run to benefit Austin Bulldog Rescue.

Austin Bulldog Rescue (ABR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating bulldogs in need in Austin and nearby surrounding areas. Many of these dogs have faced neglect, abandonment, or abuse, and ABR works tirelessly to give them a second chance. ABR provides them with medical care, love, and a chance for a new life in a caring forever home.
