Rammy's Road to Recovery!

Paul Rambow, your friend and colleague, had a devastating stroke on October 10, 2019. The engaging, gregarious, talk your ear off, friend to all that you knew is fighting hard, in true Paul fashion. He has a large clot on the upper left side of his brain that cannot be removed. He initially had no function on the right side of his body and lost the ability to speak and to understand. He is out of the Intensive Care Unit and has been moved to the KNAPP Rehabilitative Center in Minneapolis.
He can now walk with assistance without using a walker. He recognizes most visitors and his speech is partially understandable at times. He has severe aphasia and apraxia- a motor, speech, cognition disorder where his brain is unable to make the connection to say the correct words, make the correct movements and understand concepts. In REALLY true Paul fashion, he winks at his nurses!
We don’t know if Paul will be able to live independently, he’s in intense rehab now and will eventually go to a transitional care center, hopefully in a few weeks. We don’t know if he will be able to work. Paul’s recovery will be a long process and he needs your help. We believe Paul wants to return to living a full life. It’s hard to imagine and no one can predict what his future will hold and if he will ever be the Paul you all know and love.
Paul is a graduate of Osseo High School and Gustavus Adolphus College where he played football and hockey. He’s also a graduate of William Mitchell College of Law where he was Editor of the Law Review. He has a brilliant mind and quick wit and is always ready to lend a helping hand.
As his sister, it breaks my heart to see my exceptional brother struggle to name a colored peg, watching him fumble to put pegs in a straight line on a board and groan in frustration when he can’t say his own name. When he laboriously does something correctly, he smiles a crooked grin and laughs with glee.
We need your help to support Paul’s journey. Costs for hospitalization, rehabilitation, transition care, living expenses, home care and transportation are all needs he is incurring and will continue to incur. As you know, Paul is a remarkable, phenomenal person, he has the inner strength to overcome this. We will be forever grateful for your support, thoughts and prayers.
