As many of you know, our beloved family member and friend Ramiro “Boy” Vielma has been courageously fighting colon cancer since 2022. Over the past three years, he has faced challenge after challenge with incredible strength, faith, and grace — but the past few months have brought some of the toughest battles yet.
In May, Ramiro began losing his appetite, and it gradually became harder for him to eat or keep food down. After several hospital stays and procedures, doctors discovered a stricture in the first part of his small intestine, which required the placement of a duodenal stent and a feeding tube to deliver nutrition directly into his small intestine. They also placed a biliary drain to relieve pressure and allow bile to flow properly — which thankfully helped improve his liver function and swelling.
Despite these interventions, Ramiro’s journey has been full of ups and downs. In late October, he developed severe restlessness and was unable to sleep for several nights, followed by a sudden and frightening episode where he became weak, disoriented, and unresponsive. He was rushed to the ICU, where doctors determined that he had gone into septic shock caused by a streptococcus bacterial infection.
Through God’s grace and everyone’s prayers, Ramiro responded well to treatment. His blood pressure stabilized, his infection began to clear, and he was recently moved out of the ICU and into a regular hospital room.
He’s still very weak and regaining strength slowly, but he continues to push through with the same courage and determination that have carried him this far. Physical and occupational therapy have already begun working with him, and we’re praying for continued progress and healing each day.
As Ramiro and Andrea navigate this next phase, they continue to face significant financial challenges. Both have been unable to work for over two months, and their paid time off ran out in early September. Medical expenses, specialized nutrition, and home equipment (like his adjustable bed and feeding supplies) remain ongoing costs.
If you feel led to give, please know that every donation — no matter how small — directly supports Ramiro’s medical care, nutrition, and living expenses as he continues to fight this battle. Most of all, Ramiro and Andrea deeply appreciate your prayers, encouragement, and love.
Your support has lifted them through some of their darkest moments, and they remain forever grateful for this incredible community standing by their side.
