Hi, my name is Marta and I’m fundraising for my brother Ramiro Barriga’s colon cancer expenses. In May of 2022, a week after running a half marathon, Ramiro was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer. After eight weeks of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, he underwent surgery in December 2022. They removed the tumor and set up an ileostomy. Unfortunately a couple of weeks after surgery he was rushed to the emergency room literally bleeding to death. The doctors did not know what was causing the bleeding and went in for exploratory surgery. Due to complications he was in an induced coma, for five days. They repaired what they thought to be the cause of the bleeding. Three weeks later, he was rushed back to the hospital bleeding out again. He endured life saving procedures and surgeries for hours. When they finally stopped the bleeding, he had no feeling on his left leg and deep vein thrombosis, both caused during surgery. His sciatic nerve was damaged and he was left mostly paralyzed on his left leg and in tremendous pain. Due to the neuropathy on his left leg, his oncologist changed his chemotherapy treatment from an 8 week traditional treatment, to a six month alternative chemotherapy treatment. A year later and dozens of trips to urologists, oncologists, neurologists, etc, he has a permanent colostomy bag, reoccurring pelvic cavity infections, stents in both kidneys, sciatic nerve damage, a chronic internal abscess, is still unable to walk, etc. He is scheduled for yet another major surgery at Stanford on February 14th to clean up the abscess, remove damaged tissues and fill in the pelvic cavity with muscles from his buttocks and thighs. Needless to say, this journey has left him and our family depleted of resources. During this journey he was let go from his job and left without insurance. I am asking for your support for my brother. His struggles have been horrific and he is far from being healed. Please help! Thank you!
