Dear friends,

Ramadan begins on February 17, 2026 and continues for one month.

Why are we raising funds?

Since 2022, we’ve raised funds each Ramadan to support families in Afghanistan who are widows, elderly, living with disabilities, or have no source of income. Women are still not permitted to work outside the home, leaving many households-especially those led by widows-without any source of income.

The hunger crisis in Afghanistan has reached devastating levels. Many families go months without consistent support and struggle daily to find enough food. With Ramadan approaching, our goal is to help families welcome this sacred month with dignity by ensuring they have food to break their fast and feed their children.

Our financial goal:

Based on current market prices as of today, one full food package costs the equivalent of USD $118. This includes rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, tea, and protein (beans/chickpeas/lentils).

To support 100 families, the cost for food alone is the equivalent of about USD $11,800.

$15,000 will also cover:

• Essential logistics and transportation (delivery across 10 areas in Kabul and one eastern province)
• Driver costs and phone/internet credit to coordinate with families

And likely price increases as Ramadan gets closer, so we don’t have to reduce packages or the number of families served.

The spiritual meaning of feeding others in Ramadan:
In Islam, feeding a fasting person carries immense reward. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without any reduction in his reward."(Tirmidhi)

Supporting one family often means feeding five to eight people every day throughout Ramadan-multiplying both the impact and the reward many times over.

To everyone who has supported this journey since 2022: thank you. This is a shared effort. This is your impact. Your kindness has brought nourishment, relief, and hope to families who would otherwise go hungry.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Fern and Yasameen

My name is Fern Remedi-Brown in Massachusetts, USA, and I am raising funds on behalf of my friend and former classmate Yasamin Khatera Nabizada, for reasons of safety.

The parties for whom we are raising funds are all close contacts of Yasamin when she lived in Afghanistan.

There are 110 families who have received funds since Fall 2021 through our GoFundMe efforts. They are all widows or disabled individuals living in families without means. We are helping them to have food during the winter, to have their dignity.

There is no help from the Islamic Emirate. They rely on friends who have been successful in leaving Afghanistan.
