For the third consecutive year, Ram Nation will bring together a group of VCU legends to compete in what's simply called "The Basketball Tournament", which is an open entry winner-take-all tournament on ESPN featuring former college and professional hoopers.
Ram Nation put together a VCU legends alumni team first in 2016, advancing to the tournament's "Super 16" that year, then took things a step further in 2017 by punching our ticket to the Elite 8. We hope to go all the way to the championship game this summer, a journey that will start at our very own Stuart C. Siegel Center on July 14.
Eric Maynor, Bradford Burgess, Jordan Burgess, Melvin Johnson, Juvonte Reddic, Brandon Rozzell, Jamal Shuler, Darius Theus, B.A. Walker, Justin Tuoyo, Jesse Pellot-Rosa and Joey Rodriguez all reunited on the floor they competed on in college. Sounds too good to be true, but it's a reality that this tournament has created (more info at www.thetournament.com).
The point of this GoFundMe is to help fund roster fees needed to field what we think is a deep enough and talented enough team to make a run while representing VCU on ESPN in a rare bit of high-level July basketball.
Our roster has stretched beyond the nine free roster spots -- which also includes the likes of Xavier grad James Farr, pro British baller Ryan Richards and VMI legend Reggie Williams -- and with that brings roster fees that total $1k per additional player beyond the free nine-man roster (we are currently at 13). Your donation will go toward paying for our additional players' ability to compete with team Ram Nation this summer.
