Ralph's road to surgery & recovery!

Our Ralph (AKA Ralphie) quickly won our family's heart. We brought him home the week of Oliver’s 6thbirthday, after he chose us at the breeder. We immediately saw that he was an amazing, spunky, love-muffin of a pup and we are all, of course in love!

At Ralphie’s first vet visit, our vet felt something abnormal on his kidney and was concerned. He requested that we bring him to get an ultrasound and consult with an internal specialist. We immediately acted on this, as we too were concerned and wanted to know what was his future might hold. The next day, we had an ultrasound performed and the vet confirmed that the kidney was abnormal and agreed that we need to see the internal specialist. We were fortunate enough to get into the Internal Medicine Specialist the day after that who then took additional, higher resolution, ultrasound images to better diagnose the issue. Thankfully, diagnosed Ralph with having a rare congenital condition called an Ectopic Ureter. This basically means that his ureter (or tube that connects his kidney to his bladder) is connected in the wrong place and is backing up urine into his kidney. Unfortunately, this means that his kidney is under immense strain due to the backup of fluids and he has to pee constantly and cannot empty his bladder. Due to the nature of this condition we have to act quickly in order to preserve his kidney and correct the ureter.  We were relieved to hear that there is a surgical solution, unfortunately, it is a very expensive surgery and 1-2 night stay at UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. They are the only doctors/surgeons that have the technology to perform this surgery. This surgery will be a true fix to his condition, and once he has the surgery we can look forward to Ralphie living a normal, happy life with us.

So far, all of the vets that have seen Ralph have been more than amazing! I believe them to be the best! They all instantly fall in love with his face (pro for us) and have offered us an optimistic outlook and continual support and input going forward.

Creating this go fund me has been incredibly humbling and challenging for us, as we are not the types to ask for help, but Ralph needs our help, so we humbly ask for yours.

We are asking for help to offset the costs that we face to help Ralph get the surgery he needs. We are so attached to this sweet pup, that we cannot imagine not having him in our lives. He shows so much love and affection to everyone he meets, and he deserves the same from us. Thinking about putting a 16-week-old puppy through this has been daunting but knowing that he will come out the other side and lead a normal life with us, makes this a clear decision. He is a part of our family no matter how long we’ve had him and any assistance that can be offered will be received with mountains of gratitude and puppy licks & love.

We humbly thank you all for considering to help.

Love,
Danielle, Brian, Oliver, Sofia, Georgie & of course, Ralphie.
