Sedbergh Foundation Scholarship Fundraising

Val Varley and David (DAS) Pearce have joined up to take part in this historic Rally in the 500th Year of Sedbergh School to raise money for the Roger Lupton Scholarship Fund.

This fund currently provides 15 fully funded scholarships for pupils providing life-changing educational opportunities for exceptionally talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds such that they can fully develop their potential through an education at Sedbergh that truly does justice to their skills.

The challenge is to navigate the wilds of Scotland in a "Grand Tour" style journey in a car acquired for £1500 or less (not paid for out of funds raised and auctioned at the end with monies going to fund).

Val has looked after boys and girls at the school since 1977, as a cook in Winder House (77-81), a matron to the junior Cressbrook house (87-90), Sedgewick (90-93), and lately covered all 9 boarding houses as a relief matron. Even to this day, she still works at the school chaperoning pupils on buses.

DAS Pearce was a pupil in Powell House, 81-86.

Val and DAS met at Kinrara, an annual summer camp in the highlands of Scotland that was organised and run by the late Ed Campbell, a former housemaster of Powell and Evans House. This gave the pupils the opportunity to enjoy the splendour, wildlife, golf and everything that the hills and lochs of Speyside had to offer. This ran from 1981 to the early 2000's and gave all those who went further life skills and leadership qualities.

The Roger Lupton Scholars, named and unnamed, are a hugely important part of the school and includes 6 local children, from Settlebeck school, each year to join the 6th form. It has and continues to give opportunities to a wide variety of children with all types of talent, both academic and sporting.

Our mission is to raise funds, between the 25 teams taking part in the Rally, to provide a new fully funded place for a scholar to be given this opportunity, as it really changes lives.

Our thanks to everyone who supports us through a donation and also sharing this page to your networks.
