If you know us, you've heard us talking about it for years, but we're finally ready! We're officially fundraising to open the Rally Rescue: a one-of-a-kind community and dog shelter dedicated to rescuing and rehoming pups, all while building long-lasting relationships with each person who comes to the Rally Ranch to adopt a pet.
In case you're wondering how a rally racing school on a Texas ranch turned into an animal refuge, here's a little back story of how this came to be:
In 2015, Dave moved from Austin, Texas to a ranch 20 miles outside the city and turned a 140-acre cow pasture into a nationally-renown racing school, Rally Ready.
Shortly after settling in, Dave decided it was time to rescue a pet and headed to local kill shelter to save a deserving animal from slaughter, but didn't get far. Five miles into his trip he saw a skinny shadow in the middle of the street and immediately pulled his truck into oncoming traffic to protect the emaciated dog from being hit by a car. He patiently called the pup over to the side of the road, scooped him up, and took his new flea-ridden furry friend home to the ranch.
Dave never made it to the shelter that day, but some might say that's when Rally Rescue was born.
After healing (and learning to heel), Mondo must have spread the message that the brown crunchy on the ranch is extra crunchy and this race car business brings endless cuddles from people around the world. As word got out that the gettin' is good at Rally Ranch, dogs of all shapes and sizes (and even an occasional deer) started showing up looking for love.
For the past four years we've been finding foster homes and forever homes for dozens of dogs whose lives are changed for good having made it through recovery at the ranch, and we're finally ready toEnter Alex.
Alex was the kid who was obsessed with animals, so it was no surprise that at 16 she started working as a kennel tech at the San Antonio shelter for $6/hr. Fifteen years later she still hasn't ever had a job that didn't involve dogs. Earlier this year as Alex was wrapping a six month RV tour around the country with six pups in tow, she happily agreed to park her home at the ranch and help develop a training and adoption program.
So besides dozens of dogs, race cars, and RVs on what is possibly the only vegan ranch in Texas, what makes us different?
It's not just the dogs we care about. We're here to help PEOPLE
Our mission is to bring the best people together to rescue, retrain and rehome these dogs to find them forever families. With a strong emphasis on education we aim to raise awareness around the overpopulation of kill shelters around the country with the goal to bring people and pups together to end the killing of adoptable pets.
As we gain momentum with this mission and attempt to build a fully functioning shelter, we need your help!
Your generous contribution will help meet our current needs by providing:> A structurally sound large fenced in area for play, exercise & professional training> 3 new buildings for indoor/outdoor housing and kennels> All general health care, spay/neutering, any injuries, etc. for new animals as they arrive at the ranch> Food & water, toys, beds and other things to keep the dogs happy and their minds occupied, because who doesn't love a little entertainment?!
We're still working on the legal stuff for 501c3 status (we're dog people not attorneys, ok!), but the dogs need help NOW. We deeply appreciate any/all support you can offer through cash donations to care for our animals while they're at Rally Rescue.
We may not be able to keep all the dogs, but with your help, we can save thousands of lives.
