Rallying with Haley: Help Her Beat Cancer Without the Burden
Donation protected
On April 30th, our world changed. My sister Haley — “Aunt Haley” to my twelve children and “Ms. Hay-Hay” to the countless kids she’s loved and cared for over the years — was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the bladder. It stopped us in our tracks. She now faces a radical cystectomy — the complete removal of her bladder — and a long, uncertain road ahead.
Haley is preparing for a PET scan to determine whether the cancer has spread. Our deepest hope is that it’s localized and can be treated, but even best-case scenarios involve intensive surgery, a recovery time of 8 weeks to 3 months, and an avalanche of medical bills.
Though Haley has health insurance, it’s far from comprehensive. She’s already been hit with high copays and will be facing mounting expenses — not only for her treatment but also for everyday bills as she recovers and is unable to work.
But more than anything, I don’t want Haley to carry the weight of financial stress on top of everything else.
Haley is the kind of person who gives everything and never asks for anything in return. For over 13 years, she’s poured her heart into caring for children through her work in childcare — and in our own home, she’s been a second mother to the over 100 foster children who’ve come through our doors. She is my sister, my best friend, and the person who helps hold our family together. She has a heart of gold, and somehow, even in the face of this devastating diagnosis, she hasn’t complained once. That’s just who she is.
Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
We are asking for help — from friends, family, and anyone who knows what it means to love someone who gives so selflessly. Every dollar raised will go toward Haley’s medical expenses and basic living costs while she heals. Our goal is to allow her to focus solely on getting better, not worrying about how she’ll make ends meet.
Please consider donating, sharing this page, and sending Haley love and prayers. She is truly the best of the best — and together, we can help her get through this.
With heartfelt thanks,
