Rallying for Amy: Comfort, Care & Love

Hi everyone. Many of you may already know that our dear friend, Amy Wilson, was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer this past July. She’s kept things quite private, as she’s not someone who seeks attention, but we felt it was important to share an update.

Amy’s cancer was found to have spread to her liver, distant lymph nodes, and the lining of her abdomen. While her doctors have told her the disease is not curable, they are hopeful about her response to immunotherapy. She has been receiving treatment every three weeks and is expected to move to monthly treatments for the next two years.

Although Amy is eager to return to work in some capacity, when she can, she hasn’t been able to work since July. The treatments come with unpredictable side effects and leave her with very little energy. On top of that, she does not have long-term disability coverage and has been relying solely on EI sick benefits, which will end in January. As you can imagine, the financial strain adds another layer of stress during an already overwhelming time.

As much as Amy prefers to stay out of the spotlight, she has—after a lot of gentle convincing—agreed to let me create this page in hopes of gathering some support. If you’re able to contribute financially, she would be deeply grateful.

Amy also hopes this message helps raise awareness. Colorectal cancer rates in younger adults are rising quickly. She has both the BRAF V600E mutation and MSI-H status (Microsatellite Instability–High), important biomarkers that indicate a more aggressive cancer and resistance to traditional chemotherapy, which is why she is receiving immunotherapy. Thankfully, newer immunotherapies are showing very promising results—and we are incredibly grateful for the advancements in science that make this possible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Amy’s story and for sharing it within your networks. Any support would mean the world to her.
