On July 14th, while celebrating the life of her former boss, Madison experienced the first of many muscle spasms on the left side of her face. These facial muscle spasms persisted daily for two weeks, until July 28th, when the spasms were accompanied by numbness and tingling in her face, hands, legs and feet, and shortly followed by an inability to speak. These seemingly random symptoms scared maddy and her loved ones, prompting a trip to the ER, where they performed bloodwork and a CT scan of the brain. The doctors claimed to have not found anything from these tests, but suggested visiting a neurologist to be safe.
Upon seeing the neurologist on August 1st, Madison was told that these symptoms were actually focal point seizures and that they were on the right side of the brain, thus impacting the left side of her body. He iterated that the causes of these seizures were so far unknown but could be caused by a number of things ranging from epilepsy or nerve/brain damage, to a stroke or tumor. In search of the definite cause, Madison was required to take an EEG and an MRI. She recieved the MRI on August 9th, and the next day was called by the neurologist to come to the hospital as soon as possible.
Upon arriving to the hospital, Madison recieved the heart-breaking news that the MRI test had revealed brain cancer. In medical terms, they reported a 3.7 cm tumor about the central sulcus part of her brain, which is the area that that separates the parietal lobe and the frontal lobe, thus impacting her primary motor and sensory cortexes. The doctors determined that the tumor is malignant and most likely stage 2 or 3.
Already shocked and scared by the news she had just recieved, the doctors added that they must perform brain surgery to remove the tumor within the next week or two. Today, on August 16th, Madison recieved results from a CT scan that was taken to determine whether the tumor is metastatic or not. Luckily, they found no other trace of cancer in the body, meaning the cancer is confined to the tumor.
Before the recent turn of events, Madison had experienced one of the best days of her life, when, on July 22nd, during a camping trip in the Rockies, she was proposed to by the love of her life, Angel. The newly engaged couple has been experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions as they embark on their future together, met with the devastating news. Madison and Angel, as well as their immediate family and friends, are staying hopeful, but the road ahead wil be long and tumultuous.
If you've known Madison long or even just met her once, you likely also know what a force she is. She's fiercly loyal and loving, shes driven by positivity and strength, and she is perhaps the goofiest and funniest person you know. Speaking on behalf of her closest support system, she defintely does not deserve the struggles she is facing, but she will, nonethless, persist. We can all attest to her love of life and resiliency that have gotten her over mountains and will continue to.
As Madison and her immediate support system navigate this difficult time, we graciously ask that her family, friends, and extended support sytems send lots of love, hope, and well-wishes. We believe in the power of positivity, which is our primary driving force at this time. That, and Madison's continuous sense of humor, of course. As well as an emotional journey, however, this will prove to be a costly one. In preparation for her surgery in the next week or two, she is expecting to be out of work at least three months for healing and rehabilitation. In addition, her fiance, Angel, and her mother, Lora, will be taking time away from work to assist her through the healing journey. Coupled with bills and medical costs not covered by insurance, the couple is facing a potentially large financial burden.
Madison's health is of upmost importance, and the last thing we want is for her to worry further over finances. As so, we have set up this GoFundMe to help cover bills and medical costs to relieve the burden on Madison and Angel so they can focus on what's most important right now. On behalf of Madison and her support system, we greatly appreciate any love and prayers. And, if anyone would like to make a financial contribution of any kind, we will be forever grateful.
With Love,
XO
