PLEASE, LETS HELP JAN!

Jan (Hackworth) Wiggin

AKA: "Cookie"

( A loving name her dad gave her, along with her twin sister "Candy")

On July 1st, 2025, Jan received some shocking news. The pain she had been experiencing was finally diagnosed. She was in total disbelief and remembers asking the Doctor to please repeat what had been laid out to her. 'You have a small spot on your pancreas and will need to start chemotherapy as soon as possible. It's Cancer.'

Everything came to a screeching halt that day.

Jan was independent, and had been working full time at Ventra in Grand Rapids for the past 13 years.

She had recently moved into a new apartment with her furry, friend Chula.

She was enjoying the idea of summer.

Now she struggled with telling friends and family the news.

Work life stopped, and 3 months of chemotherapy began. She lost her long hair but rocked a head scarf like no other! She remained hopeful.

Chula never left her side, always keeping her warm.

The first round of chemo was not a success. The Cancer had spread.

A more aggressive round was ordered, three more months.

On January 12th, a new scan revealed some hope. The Cancer was shrinking.

Jan felt optimistic and agreed to another round of chemo. When asked if she wanted to wait another week to start, to take a breath and recover, she said 'No, let's start now.' That's the strength I love about her. She is not a quitter.

We are so hopeful and proud of her resilience. After a lifetime of being kind and caring to others, it's time for family and friends to rally around her. Knowing she resists asking for help, I am asking for her. I want her to know that people really are good humans, that she is loved and in our thoughts, every single day.

Please, if you can donate ANY amount, it will help her.

Spread her story if you can. Lack of income is very difficult in a time of insecurity. Let's keep her above water so she can concentrate on healing.

Thank you, so much.

Rebecca Brown - Family & Friend.
