Rally of Support for Steve and The Scanlons
Donation protected
The Scanlon's have been through the unimaginable over the last couple years and if you have been with them, you might not even be aware because they are both the strongest people you will meet. Steve and Hannah are not ones to ask for help, in fact they are more likely to be the ones asking if you need anything. So of course, in their great time of need all of us wanted to step up and do for them what they would surely do for any of us. Starting this Go Fund Me page is about setting up Steve, Hannah, Sam, and Noah with the financial support needed to navigate such an incredibly challenging situation. Below is more information about what they have been through.
Steve was diagnosed with Li Fraumeni syndrome. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is a rare hereditary or genetic disorder that increases the risk you and your family members will develop cancer. After learning that Steve was a part of this rare group, they have been aggressive about getting regular screenings and taking all the steps possible to stay on top of any cancer that may show up.
In early August they found out Steve had a malignant tumor in his inferior vena cava. He underwent surgery and it was a bumpy road to recovery. They then received great news that the cancer was fully removed and surgery was a success.
Fast forward to February and Steve had a terrifying seizure while visiting friends. They were once again getting scans to see what was going on. It turns out there was now a brain tumor present and surgery on his right frontal lobe was needed ASAP to remove the tumor. After surgery in March, Steve's pathology came back as a grade four, glioblastoma. This is one of the worst brain tumors you can have. It is very aggressive and fast growing and hard to get rid of.
Next steps are for Hannah and Steve to meet with their neuro oncology team to determine if/when to start chemo, radiation therapy, or clinical trials. Due to Steve having Li-Fraumeni syndrome some of these treatments are by no means ideal so the next steps are going to be very difficult on their entire family.
Our greatest wish is that this money gives them the smallest sense of relief to pay for the medical bills that have been adding up, take time to rest, spend time as a family, pay for a trip or hopefully many trips and create lasting memories. They deserve the absolutely world and we will continue to pray for a miracle.
