This is Zach's dad, and I'm looking to help my son who has been sick for close to 3 years. Imagine having the flu, minus the fever, for 3 years without reprieve. He has been battling brain fog, nausea, headaches, fatigue, low energy, diarrhea, and has lost significant weight. He is unable to work and has had to put his education on hold as he suffers from reduced cognitive function due to his illness. So how did all this start? Zach was exposed to black mold for a period of 6 months while living in a home on a college campus. In addition, he was sick with Covid with one of the very first strains during this same time period. Zach is part of the 25% of the US population that has a unique haplotype gene, that when exposed to mold, remains permanently active, thus weakening his immune system. When did Zach begin to notice that something was very wrong? I took his brother Justin, Zach, and me to the Smokies in August of 2022 for a mini vacation. After a few pictures sent home, my wife noticed that something was not right; call it mother's intuition. Zach has been staying with his mom and dad as we try to get him better. Being 26, he is no longer able to be on our insurance plan, which makes the financial hurdle that much more difficult. His condition was such that he missed his grandfather's funeral, his sister's wedding, the birth of his nephew, and many holidays trying to recover in his room. His mother and I attend to his meals, which are very restricted for his condition, along with administering medicines, supplements, and other recommendations by those under his care. He has a fantastic support system with loving parents, siblings that think the world of him, and a very close friend that has visited him consistently. He longs to get his life back, attend school, seek employment, return to bodybuilding, and enjoy outdoor passions of hiking, fishing, and camping in the backwoods.
Zach's condition is very difficult to diagnose, and western medicine is inadequately equipped to understand the complexities of treatment protocol. We have ventured down many paths of treatments such as Lyme, CIRS (Chronic Inflammation Response Syndrome), and a plethora of gastroenterology conditions. We have tested our home to ensure he is not further exposed to black mold with ERMI and HERTSMI-2 environmental testing, coupled with air duct cleaning. He has consulted with a multitude of doctors with varying specialties. He has had so many blood tests for me to count, colonoscopies, endoscopies, GENIE, SIBO breath, GI MAP, urine, stool, CT scans, cryotherapy, capsule cams, food panels, and the list goes on and on. We have so many supplements that we could start our own nutrition store. It wasn't until we tapped into Progenabiome research with Dr. Sabine Hazan in some very complex testing of his stool, including flora sequencing, pathogens of bacteria, viruses, and parasites, as well as messenger RNA pipeline testing, that Zach's microbiome with healthy bacteria is completely diminished. He is unable to sustain or build a healthy microbiome without assistance through FMT (fecal microbiota transplantation).
FMT is very costly. The breakdown is as follows:
- FMT procedure - $10k-$15k
- Treatment protocol - $800 per 60 days
- Donor testing - $5k
- Travel, hotel, shuttle, food (2 people, 3 days)
We would be grateful for any donations towards Zach's recovery. No donation is too small. They definitely add up! This groundbreaking biome research has helped numerous others with similar conditions that Zach is experiencing. The picture of Zach's siblings, Zach is shown on the far right with blond hair, shows a happier time, and we would love for him to get back to his vibrant, active, and humorous version that we've come to love and appreciate. Thank you so much for helping!
