Rally for William Bailey's Recovery and Family

Let me introduce you to one of the most optimistic, selfless, and compassionate people you’ll ever meet: William Bailey. To meet William is to meet a man whose positivity shines so brightly that it’s hard to imagine life ever weighing him down. Always ready to lend a helping hand and tirelessly advocate for his community, William embodies dedication and resilience. Yet, behind his warm smile and encouraging words lies a story of immense challenges faced with unparalleled courage and grace.

One of William’s greatest sources of pride and joy is his beautiful wife, Misty. Their love story began with a vow on February 22, 2020, and since then, William has been her unwavering support through life’s highs and lows. Misty was diagnosed with Cardiac Sarcoidosis on November 18, 2019—a rare and incurable heart condition that has profoundly impacted their lives. Together, they have fought this battle with strength and determination, all while raising their five wonderful children: Gavin, Julia, Gideon, Emerson, and Raelyn. The physical, emotional, and financial toll of Misty’s condition is immense. The constant cycle of hospital visits, treatments, and costly medications has strained the family’s resources, made even more challenging by Misty’s inability to work due to her ongoing health complications. Yet, through it all, William has stood by her as her greatest cheerleader, caretaker, and provider.

William’s heart for service extends beyond his family and into his beloved Henderson, North Carolina community, where he has served as the Assistant Public Works Director. Since starting with the City in June 2018, William has poured his heart into every responsibility, no matter how big or small. From repairing fallen street signs to clearing litter and beautifying downtown, his dedication to Henderson and its citizens has been unwavering. William believes deeply in the potential of his community and has worked tirelessly to make it a better place for everyone.

But despite his outer strength and his commitment to others, William faced struggles that few could see. Just before Christmas this year, William attempted to take his own life, leaving those who know and love him in profound shock. It was a heartbreaking wake-up call to the toll of a toxic work environment on his mental health. Thankfully, William survived and is currently recovering in the hospital, making great strides toward healing.

While we are overjoyed that William is still with us, his journey to recovery is just beginning. As the sole provider for his family, including Misty’s medical needs, the financial burdens are immense. On top of their existing challenges, the costs of William’s hospitalization and ongoing care will only add to their struggles. It will take time for William to fully heal, both mentally and emotionally, and for his family to regain their footing.
