Organized by Bonnie Macaulay McGee and Lisa Fisher
Tyler Mayette is a brave and resilient young man who has been battling serious medical challenges since birth. He was born with gastroschisis, a rare condition in which his intestines developed outside of his body. As a result, he developed Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS)—a life-altering condition that has required countless surgeries and daily medical care.
Tyler now faces a host of severe complications including:
• TPN-related liver disease
• Anemia
• Volvulus (twisted intestine)
• Bowel strictures and blockages
• A history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Electrolyte imbalances (such as hypokalemia)
• Cellulitis
• Protein-calorie malnutrition
• Line Access problems
• MRSA
• MSSA
• Osteomyelitis (bone infection)
To survive, Tyler relies on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)—a method of feeding that bypasses the digestive system entirely and is delivered through a central line. But now, Tyler is running out of viable veins for this life-saving treatment.
On May 7th, Tyler will undergo a critical surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in an effort to repair his intestinal failure. If this surgery is unsuccessful, an organ transplant may be the only remaining option.
We are rallying together to ease the financial burden on Tyler’s family during this deeply challenging time. Your donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward medical expenses, travel, lodging, and the everyday costs that come with long-term medical care.
Please join us in supporting Tyler and his family as they fight for a healthier, brighter future.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
