My name is Michelle Kellum and on the evening of Monday, June 2nd, I received an Emergency Alert text that my oldest son, Tony Bradley, had been in a crash and Emergency Services had been notified by his Apple Watch. After several attempts to reach him by cell phone, I called my brother, who lived closest to the pinged address, to get him to go check out what was going on.
Upon arrival, my brother called and told me it was really bad, as my son’s vehicle was upside down and totally burned up. The ambulance had already left the scene with Tony and was en route to a trauma hospital an hour farther away. Tony had regained consciousness and was able to remember my phone number, so the EMT contacted me from his personal cell phone. I left shortly afterwards and drove through the night to get to the hospital… arriving just before 5am Tuesday morning.
Shortly after my arrival, they took Tony to surgery to reattach his little toe on his left foot. During his pre-surgery evaluation, the surgeon told us he would also investigate injury to his right knee. After a two-hour wait, the surgeon notified me he had been able to reattach the toe, but it would be days before we would know if the toe was going to survive. If the tissue doesn’t get enough blood flow, they will have to amputate the toe. Also, Tony’s right knee sustained a lot of ligament damage and he will need a complete knee reconstruction.
With all of this news, his mental health is taking a beating. He’s worried about the road ahead of him, as recovery will be lengthy. He’s worried about the forthcoming surgeries and recovery. He will be out of work for several months and his bills will stack up and he’ll fall behind on child support. We are applying for every kind of assistance we can for his medical bills, because he doesn’t have health/medical insurance. It’s in moments like these we put pride aside and ask for help. Anything will be helpful… including your prayers! The outpouring of love and prayers that have already been given are deeply felt and appreciated. Thank you for your continued love, prayers, compassion, and support.
