Rally for the Greggs: Rebuild After Storm
Donation protected
No one person has ever wanted a 120ft tree fall into their home. Let alone the home you bought and have poured almost every ounce of energy into renovating the entire space. But for us, this was the case. And to be clear, upfront, we could not get home owners insurance. After trying for the past year once we moved in, 7 companies told us we needed a new roof, and denied our efforts in getting insurance. So that was the plan this summer. New roof and insurance. Well that plan hasn’t changed, but we have been set back quite a bit. And we need to get a new roof sooner than later.
My wife and I have always been the type of people to lend a helping hand. Any equipment we owned has been used for the greater good. And because of that I truly believe that is why we had so many people come to help us in a time of need.
On April 29th, 2025 a strong thunderstorm ripped through western Pa and our house sat right in its path. We have worried about this tree for the last 7 years but it made it through some wicked storms and even tornados, so even though we never thought it couldn’t happen, we still had plans to take it down. Just not the way Mother Nature took it down.
This most likely 80 yr old + tree fell into our home. Luckily no person was home when it fell. But we were left with the aftermath, and because the storm was so massive, and tree companies were swamped with business, we had to take action ourselves. So we cut it up, with help from friends, family, amazing neighbors, co workers and their families, and we finally got the tree out of the house after 4 days, 5 chainsaws, several hundred feet of tow straps, come alongs, pwire, and a lot of help from a Tahoe, Trailblazer, and a Cadillac Escalade!! It truly is a testament of friendship and fellowship that the tree came out of our home. And a little determination.
But now we are faced with rebuilding the main infrastructure of the home. And without insurance, it’s a huge set back.
So we are asking for help, this is not something we normally ever do, as we are the ones that normally help others. So it isn’t easy asking. But if you’re able to donate, share the word, pray for us, or even stop by and ask if you can lend a hand we’d take you up on your gratitude and guidance. We have a long year ahead of us before winter comes. And we won’t loose faith and determination, we will rebuild this beautiful home. And make it even better than it was.
Lastly, I want to thank each and every once that reads this message. Shares our message, donates to help us in any way whether that’s financially to buy building supplies, lend a helping hand. Bring tools to help, or simply keeps us in your prayers. We are very strong willed, stubborn could probably be a better word to describe it, but we are not giving up. Our home took extensive damage and we can’t wait to post pictures of the fix and restoration of the damages that took place.
God bless you all!
