We are all bonded by the same sentiment, to know Tamika Flynn is to love her. Her smile lights up any room, her laughter is infectious & her hugs are as strong as the love she has for everyone she meets. Whether you know her from The Front Porch (Farm Boy’s), Spoon River, Hardee’s or FoodLion; Tamika has served the town of Belhaven with a smile on her face for a number of years. She is a mother to three beautiful kids, a wife to a devoted husband, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend to so many. In the past year, she has been blessed to welcome her first grandson!

In recent days, Tamika has been faced with devastating news. She was diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer. After multiple hospital stays following life-threatening hemorrhaging, Tamika has finally been released to come home to rest & be loved on by her family, while waiting for the next steps. The first hurdle was hard fought, but her fight is not over yet. Sadly, she has a long way to go. BUT we know what the c-word doesn’t know: Our Tamika is a fighter!

On September 6th, Tamika will have her first PET Scan to pinpoint exactly what she is up against. We remain hopeful that everything is contained. Following the PET scan, the doctors will be able to create a more definitive care plan for the radiation and chemotherapy she will need in the coming months. While Tamika is fighting for her life, her husband, family and friends are doing their best to hold home life together. Tamika is taking a medical leave of absence & this is where we all come in. Tamika Flynn and her family have fed people who were hungry, they have loved when they didn’t have to, they have served when they were struggling & they have smiled through pain for our community.
