With a heart full of love and resilience, Susan Macool has faced unimaginable medical battles over the past three years, yet her spirit remains unbroken. This incredible woman—beloved wife, nurturing mother to five adult children, doting grandmother, and passionate adjunct communications professor—has poured her soul into her family, her small farm, and uplifting everyone around her. But the weight of her health struggles is heavy. In August 2023, Susan endured a terrifying week in the ICU for a stomach ulcer that caused a GI bleed tied to her colitis. In 2024, she bravely traveled to the Mayo Clinic, month after month for test upon test, seeking answers for her chronic bronchitis and exploring whether a lung replacement was needed. Most recently, in April 2025, Susan’s strength was tested again when an infection in her knee replacement led to a week-long hospital stay, ambulance rides, emergency surgery, and a six-week course of antibiotics through a PICC line.

These relentless medical crises have left Susan with towering medical bills that her insurance, Champ VA, has not covered, threatening the stability of the life she’s worked so hard to build. Susan’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community make her a true blessing to all who know her.
