Rally for Ruth!

As many of you may know, our dear mom, Ruth Garcia, was diagnosed with a malignant tumor called clival chordoma which is located at the base of her skull behind her lower nasal cavity. This is a very rare form of cancer that requires very specialized treatment. Fortunately, one of the best teams in the US for treating this kind of cancer is nearby in Chicago. The surgeons at Northwestern will remove as much of the tumor as they can without damaging the surrounding arteries and tissue that the tumor has grown around. After recovering from this surgery, she will then need to go under the Gamma Knife. This radiation treatment is a one-time, non-invasive, outpatient procedure. She will then need regular scans as a part of her follow up care.

We are so grateful that our mom will be receiving the best care possible and we are confident in the team who will be performing these delicate procedures. All of this comes at a significant cost, which is why we’ve created this fundraiser. At this point, it’s unclear what the financial need will be in the end, but we know it will be significant. In the words of Carlos, it could be gadzillions of dollars. As a family, we have been so grateful for the outpouring of support we have already been given through prayer, meals, phone calls and texts, etc. Many of you have been asking what else you can do for Ruth  and for our family. If you have spent any time with Ruth at all, you know how generous she is with her spirit, support, love, and encouragement so we want our mom to be able to fully rest, recover, and focus on her healing without the overwhelming financial burden that comes with her treatments. We are asking that you would come alongside our family and shoulder this burden with any kind of gift, big or small. Any donations above their expenses will go to The Chordoma Foundation.
