Rowan Joseph Hillenbrand was born on April 22nd. Shortly after birth, he was found to have dangerously low blood sugar that didn’t respond to feeding or glucose.
He was admitted to the NICU and later diagnosed with Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI), a rare condition where the pancreas produces too much insulin, causing persistent hypoglycemia.
After weeks in the NICU, Rowan is stable but still requires high-dose IV glucose and continuous feeding through a tube. Genetic testing confirmed a mutation linked to CHI. The next step is a transfer to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, TX, one of the only centers in the U.S. equipped to determine if Rowan has a focal or diffuse form of the disease. The difference will guide his treatment - ranging from a curative surgery to a more complex, lifelong management plan.
I’m creating this fundraiser to support Rowan’s parents, who have been pouring every ounce of energy into their son while still caring for their two young children at home. Between time off work, travel to a new state, extended NICU care, and all the uncertainty ahead, they could use a village behind them.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward easing the financial strain so they can stay focused on Rowan’s health and recovery. If you’re unable to give right now, even sharing this helps more than you know.
Thank you for holding Rowan and his family in your thoughts and prayers. <3
