We are Angela and Zach. Our baby boy Riley started life on a bit of a rough note. In addition to being born at 34 weeks and having to live in the NICU for the first 5 weeks of his life, he was born with a condition known as multi-cystic dysplastic kidney. This is a condition that occurs when a kidney doesn't develop normally in the womb. Instead of functioning kidney tissue, the affected kidney is made up of fluid-filled sacs called cysts, resembling a bunch of grapes. Ordinarily, this kidney would atrophy, but his has grown, causing concern for his Urologist. At a recent appointment, she told us that the kidney will need to be removed. Aside from worrying for his health and dealing with the emotions that come with having to put our Riley on the operating table, we are unsure what the financial implications of this surgery are, and we are already burdened by the remaining $3,700 in NICU bills that were accrued during his stay. We don’t like asking for help, but recognize that everyone needs it from time to time. If you can donate, we would greatly appreciate it. If you can’t donate, please keep us in your thoughts over the next few months as we navigate this trying time. Thank you.
