Cancer. The one word that can turn one's world upside down, and on January 10, 2023, my family's life was changed forever. My father, Richard Hermosillo, is currently fighting the toughest battle of his life - he is fighting Glioblastoma Multiforme.
Glioblastoma Multiforme, Grade IV, is a complex, fast-growing, aggressive, brain tumor with an average onset at age 64 and an incidence of 3 out of 100,000. It is more common in males than females, occurs spontaneously and without warning. It is not hereditary, or caused from obesity, smoking, eating Chipotle or listening to Cardi B. With Glioblastoma Multiforme, there are no definitive risk factors.....it just happens.
Although they were able to successfully remove most of the tumor, the neurosurgeon informed us that the remaining tumor required radiation and chemotherapy to protect the surrounding brain matter. The battle was not over. In fact, the battle had just begun.
My Dad successfully completed radiation treatment and chemotherapy without incident. Things seemed to be heading in the right direction; however, the follow-up MRI showed minimal improvement. Overall, the tumor was reduced, but new tumor formation was underway. Since then, he has undergone another chemotherapy course in combination with a tumor-treating field device that needs to be worn 18-24 hours a day.
New and promising treatment modalities are under clinical investigation at various sites throughout the country. We have reached out to Northwestern Memorial in Chicago, Ivy Brain Tumor Center in Phoenix, and Houston Methodist to participate in clinical trials.
However, the costs associated with cancer treatment are exorbitant, and the financial burden on our family is becoming overwhelming. As we focus on my dad's treatment and recovery, we are in dire need of support to cover medical bills, medications, and various other expenses associated with his care.
This is where we need your help. We have set up this fundraising campaign to raise funds to support my dad's battle against cancer. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in his journey towards recovery. Your contribution will not only alleviate the financial strain on our family but also provide much-needed emotional support and motivation.
We appreciate any support you can provide, whether it's a monetary donation, sharing our campaign with your network, or keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
We will keep you updated on my dad's progress and how your support is helping us on this challenging journey. Your kindness and generosity will be remembered and cherished forever.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and consider supporting our cause. Your compassion means the world to us, and it gives us the strength to continue this fight with hope and determination.
With heartfelt gratitude and warm regards,
The Hermosillo Family
