Rhonda and Dennis's Emer. Medical Travel Fund
Donation protected
Hi:
my name is Taylor Osborne, my brother Ryan and I have launched an Emergency Medical Fundraiser to help raise Emergency Medical Travel funds for our mom Rhonda Abbott- Osborne for her follow up appointments and scans, after having major complex back surgery (she will need to attend 3 appointments in total, before the end of the year, the first one in mid September). and for our dad Dennis Osborne who also needs assistance with emergency medical travel funds to travel to St. John's for an orthopedic assessment and surgery to repair a torn/ruptured bicep tendon in his left arm.
Over the past year our mom has travelled to St. john's for medical treatment and surgery a total of 12 times, after a serious head injury resulted in a traumatic brain injury and left her completely deaf. She has undergone 3 major surgeries as a result. Reconstructive surgery of her left middle, and inner ear and of her auditory pathway to the auditory cortex of her brain, neurosurgery/brain surgery, Cochlear implant preparation and cochlear implant surgery, and numerous follow ups, procedures, scans and mapping/programming sessions. Sadly she is permanently deaf the damage to her hearing was too great to overcome, she also suffers from chronic vertigo, migraine and ear pressure pain.
The cost for Mom and an escort to travel to St. Johns, often for weeks at a time, was ungodly expensive, but necessary. Dad often went with her, especially for the big surgeries, which meant a loss of his pay also. The bills still kept coming and still needed to be paid. Mom did the best she could to stretch their savings and emergency fund, to cover her lost income, dads lost wages, the cost of medical travel and medical assisted devices not covered by workplace NL, resulting in thousands of dollars each month and the cost of medical travel for 2 for 2 weeks last month to undergo major back surgery. She did a hell of a job but the money is all gone, there is nothing left. She's waited for months for reimbursements from MTAP, to no avail. They have 5 outstanding claims right now I believe.
After the year she has just endured, the struggles, the unimaginable pain, the suffering, having to spend every penny of the money her and dad struggled so hard to save for their golden years, to now be Overwhelmed with stress and worry over how she will possibly cover the medical travel costs to attend her follow up appointments, and how she will purchase a short notice plane ticket for our dad, to end his pain and suffering and to repair his torn bicep tendon ensuring he will recover the full function of his arm. Seeing our Mom cry in frustration and defeat after being through so much, and shedding so many painful tears and losing so much, is just so heartbreaking and unfair. Its like the very life is being sucked out of her and it is so painful to watch.
Our parents need your help, need your kindness to help them with their financial burden, they do not deserve to suffer like this, they have sacrificed so much, lost so much. Please if you can find it in your heart to give even just a little, for every little bit helps. Our mom is so selfless and giving, she gives with everything she's got and asks for nothing in return. Both our parents have supported so many causes, so many friends, coworkers, and complete strangers, because that is who they are. They grew up here in this community, they've lived, worked, played and raised their family right here. They've given back to this community over and over. Please help us help them in their hour of need.
We know not everyone is in a position to give, circumstances change, things happen and we understand. If you are unable to contribute financially to this cause, please don't feel bad, say a little prayer for them. We appreciate the thought and the gesture. For those who do give we are forever grateful, we thank you for your generosity and compassion.
Eternally, gratefully yours;
Taylor and Ryan Osborne
