Hello friends, family, and neighbors, my name is Paulette James, a member, organizer, and fierce Tenant Leader within the Flatbush Tenant Coalition. I’m currently dealing with the dehumanization of housing court, and I’m calling on my community to support me through this difficult time.
I’ve long been dedicated to the movement against displacement, gentrification, and predatory housing that tenants across Flatbush and New York are facing. I’m one of FTC's founding tenant leaders, an integral member of our Steering Committee, and a steadfast Tenant Leader in my own apartment complex of Flatbush Gardens.
I’ve had a hard time finding meaningful and lasting work in recent years due to disabilities, among other factors. Because of that, I’m aiming to raise $6,000 to support myself through my legal proceedings and organizing work. $6,000 will cover my rent and living expenses for 6 months. I’m working with FTC on finding a sustainable source of income, but in the meantime, these funds raised will provide me with crucial support and peace of mind during a tough time.
Any donation will mean a world of difference as I try to close her case in housing court, continue my work as a tenant organizer and leader, and live a safe, comfortable, and dignified life. I also appreciate any time you're able to share the GoFundMe with friends, family, comrades, and community. I have never backed down from a fight and I’ve always been in stanch support of tenants across New York, and I know my community will reciprocate that spirit of tenacity and solidarity. Thank you ahead of time for your support!
In solidarity,
Paulette James
