Imagine being told your baby’s first moments in the world will be a fight for survival. This is the reality facing Mike and Becca, whose unborn daughter has been diagnosed with several rare and complex conditions.
Her heart didn’t develop as it should. The chambers of her heart didn’t seal properly, allowing oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood to mix, and her arteries are twisted and misaligned, making it impossible for her heart to function as it should. One critical artery, which should supply blood to her lungs, is underdeveloped—so small that it won’t work.
As if this weren’t enough, there’s a pinch in the umbilical cord, slowing her development. This brings added risks, including the potential for intellectual disabilities. Right now, the family faces a lot of unknowns.
Doctors are preparing for her birth, but she’ll need immediate care to stabilize her fragile condition. She’ll spend 4-6 weeks in the hospital after birth, followed by her first major heart surgery at just 6-9 months old. And this will only be the beginning, as she’ll require additional surgeries as she grows.
To further complicate matters, the baby will likely need to be delivered early, around 37 weeks, to reduce the risk of stillbirth. This leaves the family juggling the needs of their older children and trying to prepare for the uncertainty ahead.
This journey is overwhelming—medically, emotionally, and financially. Mike and Becca are doing everything they can, but they need our help. Donations will go toward medical expenses, travel costs, and support for their older children during this incredibly difficult time.
Every little bit helps lighten the load for this family as they face the unthinkable. If you feel moved to help, please consider making a donation or sharing their story. Your support means the world to them.
