I'm reaching out on behalf of Megan, a young woman I met recently. Megan made the choice to have a preventative double mastectomy with reconstruction. She's facing this brave journey with grace and strength, but unfortunately, she’s also been hit with some unexpected medical expenses after her insurance denied coverage for part of her surgical plan.

Here’s a bit about Megan and why I'm hoping you'll help me rally around her:

Megan is 30 years old and has spent the last 6 years working as a Speech Language Pathologist in public education. She currently serves the students at Prairie Middle School in the Cherry Creek School District, where her heart especially belongs to students with intensive needs. Megan’s passion is helping kids build confidence through communication and connection.

Megan carries the PALB2 genetic mutation, a high-risk breast cancer gene that her mom also carries. After witnessing her mom’s battle with breast cancer, Megan made the courageous decision to undergo a preventative mastectomy, not just for herself, but to help ease the fear her mom has carried for years.

After recently discovering multiple benign cysts that could potentially become cancerous, Megan knew it was time to take action. But as she prepared for surgery, she was blindsided by insurance denials that left her responsible for significant out-of-pocket expenses she hadn’t planned for.

Megan did not ask me to do this; I offered and she humbly accepted. She has paid all her bills up to this point and we are only fundraising for the small part of the surgery that was denied to bridge the gap between what Megan was expecting to pay and the unexpected amounts that came to light.
