The Davis community is calling out for URGENT support for the Sturges family as Maia fights brain cancer. Since taking over the treasured art supply store, The Paint Chip in 2008, Maia and Brian Sturges have provided Davis artists and crafters of all ages an invaluable resource. Now is our chance to be a resource to them as they face overwhelming medical and business expenses.

In 2018, as the mom of a young child and an infant, Maia was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2020, after successfully beating breast cancer, Maia began her next battle, this time with brain cancer.

Throughout all of this, Maia and her husband, Brian, have not only continued operating The Paint Chip, supporting up-and-coming artists, and donating generously to local fundraisers; they have also been parenting their two amazing daughters. Meadow (14) and Sofia (9) have spent most of their lives under the cloud of their mother’s various cancer diagnoses. The absolute warmth and kindness the girls exude is a testament to the kind of parents Maia and Brian are, even under such harsh conditions.

Brian is currently managing the majority of Maia’s care. The financial toll is enormous, but the emotional weight of caring for a loved one as well as the time commitment necessary can not be underestimated. He is also trying to maintain a struggling business, while also parenting two children who are witnessing their mother’s battle to survive. Brian has also had his own health struggles and some of their support system was lost when Maia lost her father in 2024.

There is so much sadness and pain in the world right now, and it’s hard to feel like we can do anything about it. Let’s start at home and help out the Sturges family.
