Update on the "C" word:
About a month and a half ago, coughing up some blood led me to the emergency room where a CT scan showed a good sized mass in my lower right lung. A biopsy was done just before Christmas, and I received the results beginning of January, where it was confirmed to be consistent with metastatic disease, meaning the cancer has spread to my lung. Fast forward to this week, I ended up back at Sloan in NYC on Tuesday because things weren't moving very quickly trying to stay in Syracuse with an oncologist consulting with Sloan. After more scans, the tumor seems to have grown faster than expected, almost doubled in size. We met with a new oncologist who was really invested in getting me a treatment plan by this week. It seemed chemo was looking like the best option until she spoke with the chief thoracic surgeon, who feels confident he can remove the tumor surgically. Next Thursday I meet with the thoracic surgeon back at Sloan and will also be doing all my pre-op testing, for surgery to be done the following week! I will be losing majority, if not all, of my right lung, but my doctors are confident I will be totally fine with one lung being young and healthy otherwise. This will be a journey and a new challenge, but I am more than willing to take this on!
Help us help Lynsey, her husband Kevin, and their one year old son Lukas. As Lynsey has stopped working and Kevin with limited income while he cares for her and Lukas, assistance with medical, travel, lodging, and day to day expenses will be greatly appreciated.
