Support Luna Nelson & Her Family During an Unimaginable Time
My Name Is Jenn Pietrzykowski, Cathrine and Luna mean the world to me, The Alberni Pilates Barre and Phoenix Cheer Community
Cathrine and Kurtis Nelson are loving parents to four children including their youngest three-year-old daughter Luna. Until recently, Luna was a happy, playful toddler—full of curiosity, laughter, and light. Everything changed in November when Luna began complaining of pain in her back and her legs.
Over the following weeks, Catherine and Kurtis brought Luna to the doctors, emergency and pediatrician , searching for answers. They were told it was likely constipation. But Luna’s pain continued to worsen. She stopped wanting to get out of bed, became increasingly uncomfortable, and lost over five pounds. Her parents knew something wasn’t right.
Two days ago, December 19th, Luna was taken to Nanaimo Hospital, and from there urgently transferred to Victoria for further testing. After a CT scan and MRI, Cathrine and Kurtis received devastating news: Luna has cancerous tumors throughout her spine from her cervical all the way down to lumbar spine. Today, December 21st, Luna is being flown to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, where she will begin specialized care.
Anyone who knows Cathrine knows how much she gives—to her family and to her community. She is the kind of person who shows up without being asked, who would help anyone at the drop of a hat, and who gives endlessly with love and compassion. Cathrine pours her heart into caring for her children and supporting those around her, and now, this family needs that same care and support returned to them.
While their focus is completely on Luna, Catherine and Kurtis are also trying to support their other children during this incredibly frightening and uncertain time.
This family needs our help.
The costs associated with travel, accommodations, time away from work, food, and unforeseen medical expenses will add up quickly. Most importantly, Cathrine and kurtis need the space to be fully present with Luna without the added weight of financial stress—while knowing their other children are cared for and supported.
If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, it will make a meaningful difference. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Luna and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Let’s come together as a community to wrap this family in love, strength, and support during the hardest days of their lives.
Thank you for caring.
Thank you for helping Luna.
