Hello Everyone, my name is Mandi and I am asking for help for my husband, Luke. He is the most wonderful husband and companion anyone could ask for, and it breaks my heart what he is going through.
When Luke was 15 (35 years ago), he severed his spinal cord at the C4/C5 level in a trampoline accident and became what they call an “incomplete quadriplegic.” If any of you may remember, that is the same level of injury Christopher Reeve sustained. Luke was completely paralyzed from the neck down through the first year. After the first year, he began to get some slight movement, underwent two surgeries, and gained even more function. Through much prayer and perseverance, he was able to complete high school as well as college. After college, he worked in IT and then Real Estate and health wellness.
Today, though, due to years of continued deterioration, his body has given out. We had to close our business 2 years ago due to his inability to walk. His body has developed spasms and tremors, making it hard to do any normal daily functions, and he is in continual pain. He’s had two additional surgeries in the last 2 years to try and prolong mobility of sorts, but nothing has worked. His nerves were so damaged in his original injury, and life’s normal wear and tear has left him without any means to function. He is no longer able to walk, he has lost function in his right hand, and his tremors are now constant and painful.
We are at a loss as to where to turn for help and struggling to pay bills. My working income is not enough to keep up the rent and the bills. Every donation will go directly toward helping Luke and I as we navigate this challenging time. Funds will be used for:
Rent & Utilities
-Ensuring we have a stable home.
Medical Expenses
-Covering essential care, treatments, and equipment.
Daily living cost
-Providing for groceries, transportation, and necessities.
Care & Accessibility Needs
-Supporting adjustments that improve Luke's quality of life.
Luke’s mind is alert as ever, but his body is unable to function. Does anyone have any suggestions for someone who wants to work but has the physical inability to do so? If you did, that would be fantastic!
So not only are we asking desperately for financial help, but also for your input if you have suggestions. Please help share Luke’s story with everyone you can. Thank you in advance.
