Rally for London's Recovery and Family's Rebuild

In the early morning hours of June 6th two gunmen had an altercation outside of the Layne’s home. Durning the second round of gunfire one of the bullets pierced the wall of the nursery striking Baby London in the head as she slept.

But God…

The miracle situation was blessed by God in that Leslie had obediently moved a more substantial crib gifted to their older daughter into the room just a few days prior. The bullet struck a spindle on the heirloom crib dissipating just enough energy to not make this a fatal wound. The resulting strike would cause a large laceration to her head, skull fracture, brain bleed, swelling on the brain, and take fiercely independent London a step back as she now must relearn how to walk, speak, and ultimately heal from her injuries. The car that was riddled with bullets can be replaced, the walls of their home filled with holes from the bullets can be repaired, but London’s life was spared by the Grace of God that night.

God’s hand was all over this situation. Her father travels for work and was only home due to a necessary surgery. Leslie moving the crib saved London’s life. The laceration and skull fracture were so perfectly placed that it allowed her fragile body to push the excess pressure through the exposed wound and relieve the pressure that would have otherwise required drilling into her skull. The bullet was so hot that it singed her hair perfectly as to allow the trauma team not to require her to be shaved. Had the wound been less than 1 millimeter deeper, London would have died in her parent’s arms before EMS made it to the scene. Had the wound been less than 1 millimeter shallower, the trauma team would have had to drill into her skull to release the brain swelling and brain bleed. The wound was perfectly placed.
In what the medical team would ultimately call, “A complete miracle,” London was discharged from the hospital 36 hours after a gunshot wound to the head. However, this is where her healing journey has really begun.

On top of repair costs, vehicle expenditures, and various other costs associated with the process of recovery. Not only London must recover from her ordeal, but all their children and Leslie and JP must attend trauma therapy weekly to help heal the emotional and trauma wounds left by what could only be described as a parent’s worst nightmare. These therapy costs alone represent $1,200 or more per week that the family must pay for out of pocket. The trauma therapy coupled with London’s continued therapy bills for Occupational Therapy, Speech therapy, and continued follow up from her injuries represent a near insurmountable financial burden for them.

This fundraiser has a $50,000.00 goal to rally around London and her family through the added medical, vehicle, home repair, additional medical expenditures, and therapy costs.
