This is a medical GoFundMe for our dear friend and sister, Kristina Clapper (née Branciforte). Kristina is a 45-year-old mother of a rising 10th grader, Kira, and a rising 12th grader, Gideon. She has long been married to her husband, Dan. Dan works as a welder while Kristina has been working as a night custodian at her children's school for the past few years. The Clapper family loves theater, music, and cats. They live in Chambersburg, PA and are active in their local church.
Kristina found a lump in her left breast on February 19, the day before her father, Mario Branciforte, suddenly passed. A biopsy performed on March 31 revealed that the lump was cancerous. A subsequent needle biopsy on May 2 showed that the cancer had spread to Kristina's lymph nodes. Given these results, Kristina's team of doctors decided that she needs to undergo chemotherapy before surgery to remove the tumor from her breast. After surgery (which will hopefully take place in October), Kristina will need to undergo radiation treatment. She is thankfully an excellent candidate for hormone therapy to keep the cancer at bay post-surgery, and she expects to continue this treatment for up to 5 years.
Which gets us to costs! Fortunately, Kristina has health insurance through her husband Dan's employer. However, she has a relatively high individual deductible of $3,300 for in-network providers, with a maximum individual out-of-pocket cost of $5,000 for in-network providers. We are working to raise money to pay Kristina's cancer-related expenses, given her high deductible and the fact that Kristina will have to take unpaid leave from her job in order to allow her body to heal.
Please feel free to donate whatever amount you can, and also to spread this fundraiser far and wide! Kristina's chemotherapy treatment begins on May 30. Let's help her off to a strong start with a showing of support! All messages and prayers for Kristina and her family are also welcomed and deeply appreciated!
